Lectures and Workshops

Continuingly international workshops are in planning about:

This workshop’s content is to prepare designermakers and designers for the reality of international markets and support them in their communication/ presentation to their audience of trade and private clients. In practical elements inbetween, the participants make use of the presented content and apply it.

“The designer and the missing link - design management
Successful design, communications and sales strategies"

The economic changes and rapid technological progress have brought new needs to the field of jewellery design, too. They stimulate us not only to work professionally in our core field, but also to organise our ideas and pass them on. How should we structure our work, its advatanges and present them convincingly, so as to successfully mobilise clients and business partners?

Barbara Schmidt (born in 1962) completed her traditional goldsmith’s apprenticeship and then attended the jewellery design course at the Zeichenakademie in Hanau. This firm basis in the jewellery sector enabled her to set up on her own in 1991. Her work had, in the meantime, expanded to design management, supported by her MA degree in design management taken at Birmingham University. She developed projects aimed at improving the way small businesses and freelance jewellery designers structured themselves. She is responsible for the Inhorgenta presentations “Design Podium” and“Brand new – new Brand” and has regularly initiated, as discussion platforms for topical themes. She shares her knowledge at international level via training and lessons.

In her workshop, Barbara Schmidt will address and research the phenomenon of the effective communication of craft and creative work together with you. You will define and analyse the strategies that make a designer a qualified and active partner in the dialogue with colleagues, clients and the media. Together, you will address the problem of how to improve the financial success of freelancers, responding to questions such as: what quality criteria matter to wearers and designers? How can I develop contacts with the media? How do creative people analyse their strengths, define their aims and pursue them strategically? The course will be conducted in English.
